FIX: Foxit Reader does not allow connection to by Bas Wijdenes

Foxit Reader and Safe reading mode.

The reason you get the error message “Foxit reader does not allow connection to ‘?” is because you have enabled Safe reading mode in Foxit Reader. This ensures that you cannot open links in pdf files opened with Foxit Reader, these links could in theory contain malware, or PDF files may even contain JavaScript functions that can start malware on your PC.

Safe Reading mode in Foxit is on default. This is a setting that you can disable in the preferences.

Let’s fix “Foxit reader does not allow connection to ‘?”.

In the tutorial below, I explain how you can disable this.
There are 2 different options:
One is for techies
Two is for the dummies with screenshots.

Let’s Disable Safe Reading mode in Foxit Reader for techies.

  • If you haven’t started Foxit Reader yet, please  Start Foxit Reader.
  • Go to File in the upper-left corner.
  • Click on Preferences in the menu.
  • Scroll to Trusted Manager.
  • You’ll see a Box called Trusted manager.
  • Remove the check from Enable Safe Reading.

Do not forget that you can now click on malicious links that contain malware. I recommend to keep the option on or temporarily turn off when you know that the links do not contain malware.

Let’s Disable Safe Reading mode in Foxit Reader for the dummies among us.

As said before. The tutorial for dummies contains screenshots to guide you better.
Start Foxit Reader and open File in the top left corner.
And click on Preferences in the left menu.

Scroll to Trusted Manager in the left menu. Here is another tab with Trusted Manager. Remove the check mark for Enable Safe Reading mode.

Now that we have disabled Safe Reading Mode you have to take into account that when you click on a malicious link you can get malware. It’s recommended to keep Safe Reading Mode on in Foxit Reader.

  1. Hi everyone,
Hope you are doing well. I am getting trouble with Foxit Reader. Most of time when I try to open a saved PDF file, there is a disturbing small window stating that there is insufficient memory to start Foxit Reader, and make sure you have enough space to start Foxit Reader!!! Sometimes it opens, but most of times it does not open. However, I have enough memory on my PC. I am on Windows 7. And Foxit Reader is the one and only software to signal such a message among all programs I am using. What could be underlying problem? Is there any possible solution to suggest? Hope to hear from you soon.

    Best regards,

    J. Marie

  2. Hello,

I turned on the Hand but still the same error. The following is the way how I fixed it.

File > Preferences > Trust Manager > un-check “Enable Safe Reading Mode” is already done as you mentioned.

Below that, go to Internet Access from PDF Files outside the web browser.
Click on “Change Settings” > select “Allow PDF files to access all web sites”.

  3. Hi Bas,
