FIX: Error code 0x803F8001 Windows Store

Try that again. Something went wrong” the basics.

The error message “Try that again. Something went wrong “is more common in the Windows store. The error message can come up in different ways so the screenshot below with the error message may differ with what the error message looks like on your screen. The solutions are the same. The annoying thing is that you can no longer use the Windows Store.

I have 3 solutions below, and 1 workaround for if none of the solutions work.

  • Solution 1: This solution resets the Windows Store back to default settings.
  • Solution 2: This completely reinstalls the Windows store.
  • Solution 3: Checks if your date & timezone is correct.
  • Workaround 1: Will let you start the Windows Store as an Administrator.

Fix 1, Reset the Windows Store to default settings to fix 0x803F8001.

The Windows Store uses a cache to make certain functionalities work faster. The cache can sometimes become corrupt and cause you to get error code 0x803F8001.

Follow the steps to remove the cache and reset the Windows Store to default settings.

  1. Go to Start
  2. Type in WSreset.exe
  3. Run the Application

The Windows Store cache has now been removed and, if all went well, you shouldn’t get the error message “Try that again Something went wrong 0x803F8001” anymore. If you still do, please proceed to solution two.

Fix 2, re-install the Windows Store with PowerShell to fix 0x803F8001.

By re-configuring the Windows Store via PowerShell, you are actually reinstalling the Windows Store.

  1. Go to Start and search for PowerShell.
  2. Right click PowerShell and click Run as Administrator.
  3. Type, or copy this command:
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Check if that has solved your problem and otherwise go to solution three.

Fix 3, check if your date and timezone are correct.

You can quickly see if your date and time zone are correct. Check at the bottom right whether it is actually the date and time of today and now.

If the time and date are correct you can continue to the workaround, otherwise you can follow the steps for the correct date and time.

Go to start and click on the Settings button.

Seach for Change the time zone.

Check if the time and  time zone are correct.

If none of the above solutions have helped you can try the workaround as last resort.

A last resort “Workaround”

Most of the times solution one will solve your problem. And otherwise solution two does. Though, if this didn’t solve the problem for you there is a little work-around. If you want to open the Windows Store or Windows Store apps open it as Administrator.

  1. right click the Windows Store or Windows Store App.
  2. Click Run as Administrator.
